چکیده

The article is devoted to the following question. Consider a periodic self-adjoint difference (differential) operator on a graph (quantum graph) G with a co-compact free action of the integer lattice Z. It is known that a local perturbation of the operator might embed an eigenvalue into the continuous spectrum (a feature uncommon for periodic elliptic operators of second order). In all known constructions of such examples, the corresponding eigenfunction is compactly supported. One wonders whether this must always be the case. The paper answers this question affirmatively. What is more surprising, one can estimate that the eigenmode must be localized not far away from the perturbation (in a neighborhood of the perturbation’s support, the width of the neighborhood determined by the unperturbed operator only). The validity of this result requires the condition of irreducibility of the Fermi (Floquet) surface of the periodic operator, which is expected to be satisfied for instance for periodic Schrödinger operators.

Numerical Analysis of Stability for Temporal Bright Solitons in a PT-Symmetric NLDC

PT-Symmetry is one of the interesting topics in quantum mechanics and optics. One of the demonstration of PT-Symmetric effects in optics is appeared in the nonlinear directional coupler (NLDC). In the paper we numerically investigate the stability of temporal bright solitons propagate in a PT-Symmetric NLDC by considering gain in bar and loss in cross. By using the analytical solutions of pertu...

On Generalization of Sturm-Liouville Theory for Fractional Bessel Operator

In this paper, we give the spectral theory for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a boundary value problem consisting of the linear fractional Bessel operator. Moreover, we show that this operator is self-adjoint, the eigenvalues of the problem are real, and the corresponding eigenfunctions are orthogonal. In this paper, we give the spectral theory for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions...

On Absence of Embedded Eigenvalues for Schrõdinger Operators with Perturbed Periodic Potentials

The problem of absence of eigenvalues imbedded into the continuous spectrum is considered for a Schrödinger operator with a periodic potential perturbed by a sufficiently fast decaying “impurity” potential. Results of this type have previously been known for the one-dimensional case only. Absence of embedded eigenvalues is shown in dimensions two and three if the corresponding Fermi surface is ...

The extraordinary spectral properties of radially periodic Schrödinger operators

Since it became clear that the band structure of the spectrum of periodic Sturm–Liouville operators t = − (d/dr2) + q(r) does not survive a spherically symmetric extension to Schrödinger operators T = −1+V with V (x) = q(|x|) for x ∈ R , d ∈ N\ {1}, a wealth of detailed information about the spectrum of such operators has been acquired. The observation of eigenvalues embedded in the essential s...

Evans Function for Lax Operators with Algebraically Decaying Potentials

We study the instability of algebraic solitons for integrable nonlinear equations in one spatial dimension that include modified KdV, focusing NLS, derivative NLS, and massive Thirring equations. We develop the analysis of the Evans function that defines eigenvalues in the corresponding Lax operators with algebraically decaying potentials. The standard Evans function generically has singulariti...
